FAQs
If you're new here and not quite sure what to do first, read through the Help Files, and feel free to jump in and let us know anything you think would be useful to others by completing the survey above.
- How do I know which videos have subtitles on them?
If you look on the bottom row of the controls for the video player you will see a button marked CC, right next to the full screen button. Click on this to view subtitles.
Alternatively, you can click on the "Preference" link on the player, and tick the box above the OK button to "Yes, turn on closed captioning when available".
- How do I switch on subtitles on videos?
Subtitles are closed to the general viewing audience because a continuous display of text across the screen can be distracting and bothersome to most viewers.
Click the CC button in the video. This will activate subtitles on the video.
- Can I get subtitled videos on a PC or a Mac?
You can use subtitles on a PC only at the present time. We hope to offer this service to Mac-users in the future.
- Is subtitling available on full screen?
Unfortunately subtitles are not currently available on full screen view, but we hope to add this feature in the future.
- If I email a friend, will subtitles automatically be switched on?
Subtitles do not automatically switch on when you IM or email a link to a video, as the settings are created locally on each computer.
So please make sure you tell whoever you are mailing how to switch on the CCs when you contact them.
- Is there a list of subtitled videos on AOL?
This page contains the definitive list of subtitle-enabled videos on AOL at the present time.
We will be supplementing the list with additional videos over the period of the trial.
